Each 4th of July holiday, two of my dearest, oldest friends (Dave and Darby) invite a hundred or so people up to their lakehome in Montello, WI for a 2-3 day festival known as Buffestalo.
This event is certainly one of the highlights of MY year, featuring one entire evening of live bands (followed up by a not-to-be-outdone Disco Party), independent film screenings (yes, people I know make films in their spare time) on a large, inflatable screen under the stars, ziplining (yes you read that correctly), bonfires, fireworks, a pig roast, pontoon boating, and river rafting.
It is, in a nutshell, an amazing week-end.
But what’s equally amazing is the message behind that week-end:
BUILD SOMETHING.
This theme is even etched on the side of the propane tank.
Here Dave is pictured next to the propane tank.
Through this annual week-end event, Dave and Darby build boatloads of creative spark, steel-strong friendships, and memories to last a lifetime.
This last few weeks, I’ve been musing over how this idea of BUILD SOMETHING applies to my life, how and whether I’m doing my part in this great big world to BUILD SOMETHING, and what BUILD SOMETHING means to me.
I believe I am BUILDING SOMETHING with regard to my business: the Pink Stiletto Empire (more to come on that front next month!). And, in doing so, here’s what I’ve become aware of. Hopefully it will inspire you to BUILD SOMETHING of your own.
To BUILD SOMETHING is to:
-allow your creativity to soar
-feel a sense of accomplishment
-connect to something bigger than yourself
-hook into your purpose
-practice defining and striving for a goal
-learn how to rip something down
-take lessons is letting things fall apart
-dream
-recognize potential
-scare away saboteurs and gremlins
-believe in yourself
-trust your plan
-allow courage
-make you feel mighty
-foster pride
-activate humility
-create strong community
-recognize remarkable friendships
-have faith
-strengthen my own “knowing”
-seize my cache of talents
-follow my intuition
-claim financial independence
-harbor a place of refuge (literally and figuratively)
-heighten the feminine power
-foster compassion
-celebrate the inconsequential
-bring into my life full-on, hands-down, no excuses ACCEPTANCE
-encourage true love for self and others…
…and so much more.
Thank you, Dave and Darby, for such an extraordinary gift.
What are YOU building in this life?
