Chariti’s Slow Down Lesson #1
In an effort to slow down my life a bit, I’m trying a variety things out and experimenting a bit with different parts of my life and how I’m living it. I thought I’d share some ideas with you that I’m trying out…you never know, you might find it fun and/or helpful to try some of these things, too.
#1. DRIVE MORE SLOWLY WITH ONLY ONE HAND ON THE WHEEL.
I used to drive 5-7 mph over the speed limit. Minimum. It wasn’t something I even consciously did–it was just my way of being when behind the wheel.
Over the last 10 days, I’ve taken up the habit of driving more slowly. I take my hands off of my speed-racer 10 + 2 position on the steering wheel and instead lay my right hand at the bottom of the steering wheel, or I place my left hand gently in the center of the steering wheel. I notice that this relaxes my shoulders IMMEDIATELY (I know, I know…this is not what I was taught in Driver’s Ed). And this, in turn, flips a switch in my head to drive more slowly, to breathe, to make space.
Odd as it sounds, I’m noticing that this small change in my driving habits is reinforcing my desire to go more slowly in life, in general.
Give it a try. Slow it down. Drive safe. Enjoy.

PS. Don’t worry–I’m parked here.
