Last week we examined feeling the highs and lows of life. We learned that we ALL experience it. You are not alone.
This week, if you start to feel like you are being weighed down by stress and overwhelm, I want you to try this very simple activity:
OPTION 2 (this may be easier with a partner)
Gather a stack of VERY heavy books or unbreakable objects and put them near you. Hold out your hands and arms about waist high, as if you are getting ready to receive something. Place a book (or unbreakable object) on your hands and, as you do so, say out loud what that book represents/what’s weighing you down (e.g., too much to do; not enough time; not enough help; fear of failure; my spouse is driving me nuts, etc., etc.). Keep adding books/objects until you’ve named EVERYTHING that is swirling around you and dragging you down. Once you’ve named them all and you are holding a big stack of heavy books, hold that position for a FULL minute. It will be difficult, I guarantee it, but do it anyway. Then, once the minute is over, DROP THE LOAD of books ALL AT ONCE (don’t worry, they won’t break) and, as you do so, say “I RELEASE YOU.” Take a deep, deep belly breath and then shake out your arms, your wrists, your hands, and your legs for a full 15 seconds. Let the energy of HEAVINESS drain away and allow it to GO! Pause for a moment and notice how you feel.
Join me next week as we take a look at Option 3 for detouring despair.
Zenfully yours,
